How good at CSS are you?

Hello Reader,

About a month ago, I asked people how many years of experience they have as a developer, but I realized something: you might have been a developer for 10+ years (which almost 19% of respondents said they did) but still not feel comfortable with CSS, so I have a new poll for you!

I realize you might feel like you are in between two of the choices here, but pick whatever is closest in that case.

You should see the current results when you answer the poll, and I’ll share the results in a couple of weeks, because I probably won’t send out a newsletter next week.

I’m currently in Wisconsin for THAT Conference, but because it’s at a resort with a giant indoor water park, I’ve brought my family with me for a little family vacation as well.

I’ll have my regular YouTube videos up this week, but the newsletter will resume once I’m back home 🙂.

🙋‍♂️ What I’ve been up to this week

Live stream replay

If you weren’t able to attend the live stream, you can get the full replay here.

The two main parts of the livestream were:

  • HTML & CSS Challenge from iCodeThis
  • html element memory game where I did terribly

There were a few small AMA sections sprinkled in here and there as well.

A background-image trick most people don’t know about

You might think of using background-attachement: fixed for a quick and dirty parallax effect, but there are some other neat things that you can do with it, including making a mouse tracking glow that follows your mouse across different elements 🙂.

🔗 Other awesome stuff around from the web

There is a difference between clip and hidden, but I’m starting to go down the use clip by default route, and switch to hidden in the use cases where I need it. clip solves most of the issues that can popup with hidden… I should probably make a video on this!

🏁 </newsletter>

Have a fantastic week!
Kevin

View this email in your browser (or share it with a friend!) Hello Reader, This week I put out a video where I showed a few modern CSS features that can be useful in a CSS reset, and it resulted in a lot of comments asking about what reset I use. The interesting thing about resets is how their purpose has changed over time. Originally, we used them to help us make sure all browsers were behaving in the same way, but thanks to how much parity we have in them now, for the most part, resets...
